Rate limits
Where limits apply
Rate limits are hierarchical. They apply per organization, per project and per API key. A request must stay within all three. Limits can differ per plan.
TerraRelay does not publish concrete numbers yet. They will appear here once the plans are published.
When you exceed a limit
You get a 429 response with the standard error body. The Retry-After header tells you how long to wait before you try again.
HTTP/1.1 429 Too Many Requests
Retry-After: <seconds>
Handling a 429
- Wait at least the number of seconds in
Retry-After, then retry. - Spread bursts over time, for example with a queue in your backend.
- Do not retry in a tight loop. That only keeps the limit exceeded.
- Use separate keys per application, so one busy application does not use up the limit of another.
